Greetings friends and supporters of The Logan Square Literary Review. Thanks to all who submitted their work for Issue IV, and continued thanks to the Logan Square/Avondale/Wicker Park/Worldwide community who have been showing their support for this publication, through monetary and emotional means. It has been gratifying to see the community embrace this project, and to see the publication doing exactly what it was created to do; provide a venue for the unknown writer to express their self.

But it is with regret that I write to you all to say that I am putting my involvement with this project on indefinite hiatus. I am no longer able to devote the resources to the publication that I have been, and I cannot foresee a point at which I can do so again. This is not to say that the LSLR has to die. The initial concept was of a community-based publication, in content and in character. If there are other people that would like to carry on the mission of the LSLR, please step forward. I will gladly hand over all my indesign templates and can certainly lend guidance in getting to the printer. Please let me know if anyone has interest, and we can start talking logistics of a handover.

Thank you again for all of your support and understanding. This was a difficult message for me to have to send out to everyone, thank you for reading. Take care.

Issue III

Hello supporters of The Logan Square Literary Review! Issue III is here and ready for YOU! Thanks again to those who submitted work, and those who loaned their support and effort to bring this issue together.

I have set the submission deadline for Issue IV at June 21. So get those summer submissions in!

Issue III is available by mail order on the right side of your screen, and look for Issue III on the shelves at our four vendors. I hope to have the LSLR available at more shops soon, but as it stands, our four vendors are:

The LSLR has now started a Tumblr site, to feature submitted works in audio, film, photo, or really anything else you could publish to a tumblr site. Please submit your work to Loganliterary@gmail.com with the subject "tumbler submission" as the subject line.

In other news, there have been mentions of a festival involving the LSLR in blog posts and other places, and I do want to confirm that the LSLR is partnering with numerous other organizers and groups to put on the TIM TAM SLAM, this September. It will be a free, outdoor, spoken-word and performance festival at the Logan Square Blue Line CTA stop. That's about all the concreted details we have so far, but permissions have been granted by the necessary authorities, and we are ready to start fielding proposals for performers.

We are maintaining a semi-strict line on the types of performers we're going to feature, and they should be spoken-word/live reading-oriented, or rhythmic-dance and drumming-oriented performances. At this point we are not looking for music acts that involve anything more than a drum (or many). Drum circles, step-dance troops, etc. please apply. We will gladly review any application concerning a performance in any medium, but please note that musicians will most likely be turned down. Sorry!

Issue II

Raincheck!

Due to uncontrollable circumstances, the release of Issue II has unfortunately been delayed, but because mind and body are strong, we have had a quick turn-around, and the rescheduled reception for Issue II is this Thursday, February 11. The time and place are the same; Atlas Cafe 3028 W. Armitage ave., 8-10 pm. Please feel free to bring friends to the reception, Issue II will be available for purchase.


In other news, the LSLR is now exhibiting on a Tumblr site: www.loganliteraryonline.tumblr.com.

This site will feature internet-tidbits of note, but also submitted original work in the form of photo, video, animation and audio. Really anything that can possibly be posted on a tumblr site is what we're looking for. Please submit these works to Loganliterary@gmail.com along with your name and cross-streets.

The LSLR is also in talks with Lynn Stevens of the blog Peopling Places to host an outdoor literature and music festival in Logan Square this spring. Details will be posted as they develop. Be sure to check out Lynn's blog which focuses on urban development of the milwaukee ave. main drag in Logan Square.

Issue II will be available through this site shortly, and at the four shops where you can currently find Issue I: G-Mart Comics and Wolfbait Boutique in Logan Square, and Quimby's Books and Myopic Bookstore in Wicker Park. We hope to expand our readerships base and venues for retail, so as the journal is available in more places, those detailes will also be posted.

Issue II is coming!

The second issue of the LSLR is at the printer, and I have scheduled the reception for Monday, February 1st @ Atlas Cafe, in Logan Square.

All are invited to come commiserate, enjoy the fine food and drink Atlas Cafe has to offer, and pick-up a copy of the journal!

Happy New Year, everyone! May 2010 be exponentially more creative and fruitful than 2009. The submission deadline for the winter issue has passed, and now the deadline for the spring issue has been set at March 21. This deadline is a little further away, so there's plenty of time to get your work in!

Issue 2: Winter 2010 will be available by the end of January. Stay tuned for news about the release reception.
